Barton Pokras has been representing family law clients for more than twenty years. He graduated with Honors from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1972. In 1981 he received a Master of Law in Taxation from Golden Gate University Law School. He is a professor of law teaching California Community Property Law at the Southern California Institute of Law in Ventura. He has learned and taught Talmudic Law for more than twenty years.
He has considerable experience in the areas of taxation, business law, contracts and real property and is particularly able to assist divorcing families who own businesses, have sophisticated estate plans, real property holdings and retirement plans that need to be dealt with in the division of community assets and liabilities.
Barton serves on the board of directors of the Ventura County Family Law Bar Association (2008 to present), is a member of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of California, the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the American Bar Association and the International Association of Collaborative Professionals.
He has represented clients before the California Supreme Court, the Federal District Court for Northern California, the United States Tax Court, and the Superior Courts in Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano counties.
Barton Pokras is a Collaborative Family Law Attorney and a Family Law Mediator. He serves on the Mediation panel of the Ventura Superior Court. Barton has a long history of providing pro bono family law services to financially challenged families, and has been commended for these services with awards from the State Bar of California, the San Francisco Bar Association and the Ventura County Bar Association.
